I got a couple of days behind so let me see if I can catch up. We had great weather in Liverpool. Blue skies and a little cool. Several of the locals said they had not had this nice of weather in several weeks. The boat docks very close to everything so an easy walk to get around.

Our view from the balcony when we docked. We had something booked from shore excursions, a Beatles walking tour. We are not big Beatles fans but thought this would be fun to do. We had a great guide who was really into the Beatles and showed us lots of pictures, told lots of stories, played and sang their tunes and walked us to lots of spots that were Beatle related.

They have this great statue of the Beatles right down from the port. Everyone stands in line to get their picture taken with them. They also have this very colorful ferry that does tours down the river.

Our guide told us all about how the Beatles came to be and I never realized how young they were when they got together and that they were only together for 6 years.

There is 1 street , Mathew Street, she takes you down that has lots of pubs and several of these are where the Beatles first played when trying to make a name for themselves. There are lots of signs, plaques, statues and wall art depicting the Beatles along the whole street.

The walking tour took 2.5 hours and really had a lot of good information in it. There were 12 people on the tour, when our guide played us several of the Beatles songs she explained where the lyrics came from.

After the tour we wanted to get something to eat so we stopped at a cafe and had brunch.

I had an open face omelette with ham and cheese and Kathy had pancakes that had toasted granola on top and whipped vanilla mascarpone along with some blueberries and dollops of lemon curd. She said it was very good and my omelette was excellent.

After lunch we walked around the pedestrian shopping district and people watched and also enjoyed the architecture.

We spent a couple of hours just walking and then we headed towards St Alfred’s dock area which has a lot of history but is now a pedestrian shopping area with lots of cafes and food trucks by it.

We found the Liverpool sign and did a selfie and then we came across this dog (sand art). The artist was taking donations for pictures so we dropped the rest of our change into the holder.

We walked around the harbor and there was a shop there that I remembered from 7 years ago when we were here that sold these very colorful images of Liverpool. I have thought about that picture for 7 years and I finally bought one of the prints.

After the wharf area we walked back along the esplanade to our ship taking pictures along the way.

In the picture on the left you can see The Royal Liver building. It was opened in 1911 and it was once Europe’s tallest skyscraper. The 2 birds on the top are made of copper and are the mythical Liver birds. The one facing the water is Bella who looks out over the waterfront and protects the sailors and the one looking over the city is Bertie who watches over the people and the pubs. Locals say that Bertie let them down when covid came because all the pubs closed down. they are a cross between a cormorant & an eagle and legend says if they ever leave Liverpool will cease to exist! They are tied securely to prevent that…

The back of our ship. In the right hand picture you have the tall radio tower and you used to be able to go to the top for great views but the building is currently unoccupied and the city is trying to figure out what to do with it.

This picture shows the guys who untie the ships line. They have to go out in a small boat and then climb up the concrete base to free the lines when the boat sails. Looked a little precarious to us.
